Project Overview

The 33 MW Excelsior Wind Energy project in the Western Cape is set to be one of the larger renewable energy projects in 2020. This province has 3 BW4 wind farms under construction and nine in total. The BioTherm energy project started less than two years ago and the facility is expected to achieve its commercial operations late in October. It is expected to generate 132 GWh of renewable power each year for a 20-year duration.

Furthermore, projects affecting the BW 3.5 project resulted in 27 projects with a total capacity of 2300 MW being delayed despite years of load shedding. The projects, as a result, have achieved financial close ever since and are now at various stages of construction. The Exelscior wind farms connected to the grid through an on-site substation and a 132 kV power line connecting to the Vryheid substation close to a farm in Swellendam.
